This month has the great American holiday of Thanksgiving. We celebrate Thanksgiving to give thanks for not dieing when Europeans first came to America. Thanksgiving is held on the third Sunday of November and is celebrated with a big turkey dinner. It is a time for family and football.

ヨーロッパからやってきたアメリカへやってきた人々が生き延びたことに感謝する日です。サンクスギビングは１１月の第３週目の日曜日にお祝いされ、その日には大きなターキーを夕食に食べながらお祝いします。家族と過ごしながらアメフトを見るのが週間とされています。

I recently took a trip to Belize to go to my best friend’s wedding. In fact, both the bride and the groom are two of my oldest friends. The wedding was very casual, compared to a Japanese wedding. The ceremony took about five minutes and the reception lasted more than five hours. There was singing and dancing and so much food and alcohol. I have been to a lot of Japanese weddings in the past couple of years and I really prefer this relaxed western style.

最近ベリーズって国で古い友人の結婚式に参加してきたよ。日本の結婚式にも何度か出席したけどこっちのはもっとカジュアルで歌ったり踊ったり飲んで騒いでパーティって感じで僕はこっちのほうがやっぱりすき。

Some western wedding customs:欧米の結婚式の習慣
During the reception, if guests tap their glasses with their silverware, the bride and groom have to kiss.式の間にゲストが銀食器でグラスをならすと新郎新婦はキスをしないといけない
Guests who have known the bride and groom a long time usually give a speech, or “toast”.
親しい友人はスピーチや祝杯をあげる。

Wearing a Yukata in Mordern Japan
Recently、i had planned to go to the PL fireworks with my friends.
So we went shopping for a beautiful(but cheap)Yukata for me to wear to the fireworks.
I didnt realise they ranged in price so much. But i eventually found one which i thought was a good mix of Beauty and reasonability.
It ended up turning out that my friend couuld no longer come to it but i still wanted to wear me yukata. She was plannning on dressing me up but since she could no longer come,i wondered what to do.I didnt want all of my hopes and our long yukata shopping expidition to be for nothing, so i decided to dress MYSELF!!
the little Obachan in the shop where i bought it had thought me how to put the obi on,but i couldnt quite remember.
However,thanks to the wonders of modern technology I was able to look up You-tube and follow along with some random girl putting her yukataon.
When i finally did my Obi bow I was so impressed with myself!!!
It just made me think about how much our world os defferent to the little Ladies from the olden days wearing Kimonos-they didnt have any You-tube to help them !!

PLの花火のために浴衣を買いにいったJ.　一緒に行く友達が着せてくれるってはなしだったけど行けなくなった・・・ってことは？　　そう、せっかくの浴衣を着ないのはもったいない。けど着方がわからないJは現代のテクノロジー、そうYou-Tubeを駆使してなんとか自分で着てみたそう。
なかなか上手にきれて一人大満足。昔の着物レディ達と現代でははるかに違う世界になっているのね！

これって国によって違ったり、遠くはなれた国なのに同じだったり、今日は心斎橋教室のイギリス出身Louが傘をプレゼントされて見せてくれました。
素敵でしょ？っていいながら傘を半開きにしてたので、why dont you open it and show it to me?（開けて見せてよ！）っていったらUNLUCKY!（不幸になる！）って・・・。

イギリスだけでしょうか？
日本にもあるのかな？

あと遠く離れたアフリカのナイジェリア出身の友人は夜中に口笛ふいたら蛇でるよって・・・。
thats what i was told when i was a kid!!!!（それ子供のときにいわれたことある～！！！！）
ってついつい叫んでしまいました。
ナイジェリアにも日本と同じ迷信があるんですね。

Recently i saw the new blockbuster movie "slum-dog Millionaire”.
This movie was so Good!! I really loved it.
It was full of action,romance, betrayal and culture.
Before watching the movie I didn't know much about India's culture,but i found it was very interesting and have been inspired to learn more about it.

The story is about a boy who is a "slum-dog"(a low ranking person in India) and he is trying to find the love of his life who he was separated from many years before.

In a plan to try to find her,he goes onto the show " who wants to be a millionaire" hoping that she will be watching and will find him.

He continues to answer the questions correctly which leads the producers of the show to think he is cheating (because a slum-dog wouldn't be smart enough to know the answers).

The movie shows clips from throughout his life which explain why he knows the answers to the questions.

There are moments that make you laugh, moments that make you cringe and moments that make you want to cry. I think it is one of the best movies i have seen this year.

Recently due to the bad economic situation over the globe,

many goverments are giving away money to try to raise the economy.

Because i live in Japan,I received 12000yen from the Japanese goverment,
私は日本に住んでいるので１２０００円を日本の政府から受け取りました。

but also ,in Australia they are giving $900(roughly75000yen) so i also received that!
それだけでなく、オーストラリアでは９００ドル、日本円にして約７５０００円も受け取ることが出来た！

to begin with I thought that the Australian Goverment must be so much more generouus than Japanese one but actually when you compare each countries population,it probably works out to about the same.
当初、オーストラリアの政府は日本に比べて、なんて太っ腹って思ったけれど、人口を比較してみると同じくらいなのかもしれません。

Australia has much smaller population than Japan,
オーストラリアの人口は日本のに比べてはるかにすくないのです。

actually,the whole population of Australia is smaller than the population of Tokyo.
実際、全オーストラリア人口は東京のそれよりも少ないのですから。

so the Japanese Goverment is probably giving more from the Goverment,
but once its divided smongst all the people it becomes significantly less......
だから日本の政府はきっとより多くの予算をあてていながらも個人にわりあてる額が非常にすくなくなってしまっているのでしょう。

recently i saw the new movie 'Australia',Because i am Australian,I was excited to see the landscapes in the film, and watch some of the history of Australia, but actuallly the thing i loved most about it was the 'AussieLanguage'.
最近オーストラリアって新しい映画を見ました（オーストラリア人だし）！映画の中でオーストラリアの風景や歴史を見れるのをたのしみにしていたけど、実際に一番面白かったのは映画の中ででてくるオーストラリア英語でした。
Australians use lots of slang words n phrases which actually dont really make sense to non-australian.オーストラリア人はオージー以外には意味がわからないようなスラング(単語・フレーズ）をたくさん使います。

In fact,I watched the movie with a canadian friend of mine,and she had trouble understanding parts of what people were saying.実際に一緒に映画を見に行ったカナダ人の友達は映画の中で使われるオージー英語を理解するのに苦労したようでした。

Here are some examples of 'aussie slang'いくつか代表的なものをあげてみますね。

-She'll be right(it will be ok)　 なんにでもＳＨＥを使うそう。
-Sheila(Girl) アウトバックってオーストラリアのステーキハウス(西梅田）のトイレにはこう書いてマス！
-Bloke(boy) 　女子トイレにはＳＨＥＩＬＡ　男子トイレにはＢＬＯＫＥ　
-Crikey(Oh no) クライキー！
-Where ya headed to?(where are you going?)　どこいくん？って感じですね。
-I'll give you a hand(i will help you)　手を貸す。日本語と一緒だね。
-Its a scorcher(its really hot)　　へ～

-Chuck on the sports(can you please put on the sports channel)　　Ｏｈ，ＢＯＹ！
